Located in the heart of downtown Worcester, Massachusetts, this transformative project involved the complete renovation and revitalization of 526 Main Street, a historical structure now home to Workbar, co-working office space company, based in Boston, MA. Engaged as construction manager, RPM collaborated with Menkiti Properties to bring a new life to this iconic property while preserving its historic character.
As part of the renovation, RPM engaged its in-house team to perform significant structural upgrades; incorporating new concrete, wood, and steel systems throughout the building, while carefully maintaining the building’s historical integrity. A centerpiece of the renovation includes a newly installed three-story monument staircase, serving as both a functional and architectural focal point of the space. The team also installed new energy-efficient window systems to improve the building sustainability while maintaining period-correct aesthetic. Throughout the project, the RPM team took special care to preserve the building’s distinctive ornamental façade elements; characteristic of Worcester’s architectural heritage.
The modernized interior now features all-new building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services. Given the project’s central location, the RPM team coordinated extensively with city officials to ensure smooth execution in the busy downtown setting.
This project follows RPM’s award-winning renovation of the Chatham Lofts, for which the company earned the Silver Hammer Award for Historical Renovation. The 526 Main Street Project remains part of a continued vision by Menkiti to revitalize Worcester and restore it as a vibrant hub of entrepreneurship, community, and opportunity.
